KBL Round 9: Suwon KT defeat Goyang in the closest game of the week

After 9 rounds played we can already see who rules in the KBL and who belongs to weaker ones. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the KBL took place in Daegu. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of second-best Goyang (8-4) to seventh ranked Suwon KT (5-7) 72-70 on Saturday evening. Suwon KT dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Goyang's 26. They outrebounded Goyang 47-24 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. American swingman EJ Anosike (201-1998, college: CS Fullerton) stepped up and scored 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Yoongi Ha (203-1999) chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American power forward Dedric Lawson (206-1997, college: Kansas) with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Goyang's coach Byong-Chul Kim tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Suwon KT maintains seventh place with 5-7 record. Goyang at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with Mobis Phoebus. Suwon KT are looking forward to face higher ranked LG Sakers (#4) in Changwon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Goyang will play on the road against the league's leader Anyang where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Changwon. 4th placed host LG Sakers (7-6) lost to first ranked Anyang (10-3) 84-67. The former international guard Junhyeong Byeon (186-1996) nailed a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists for the winning side and Rhenz Abando accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds. Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for LG Sakers in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Anyang maintains first place with 10-3 record. LG Sakers at the other side keep the fourth position with six games lost. Anyang will play against league's second-placed Goyang in Daegu in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. LG Sakers will play on the road against Suwon KT in Busan and hope to get back on the winning track.
Seoul Thunders (#5) were upset in Seoul by eighth ranked KCC Egis 78-72. The best player for the winners was Guna Ra who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Marcus Derrickson who recorded 18 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. KCC Egis maintains eighth place with 5-8 record. Loser Seoul Thunders keep the fifth position with eight games lost. KCC Egis will meet higher ranked Mobis Phoebus (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Seoul Thunders will play against KoGas and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Seoul Thunders lost to Mobis Phoebus on the opponent's court 77-86. Seoul Knights unfortunately lost to KoGas in a home game 76-81. Wonju DB recorded a loss to Goyang on the road 77-82. Mobis Phoebus defeated KoGas on its own court 85-72. Suwon KT beat Seoul Knights in Busan 81-69.

Mobis Phoebus - Seoul Thunders 86-77

Rather expected game in Ulsan where 5th ranked Seoul Thunders (7-8) were defeated by third ranked Mobis Phoebus (8-4) 86-77 on Saturday. Mobis Phoebus looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Gaige Prim (203-1999, college: Missouri St.) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international forward Woosuk Lee (196-1999) chipped in 15 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Marcus Derrickson (201-1996, college: Georgetown) who recorded 24 points and 6 rebounds and center Weon-Seok Lee (203-2000) added 12 points respectively. Four Seoul Thunders players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mobis Phoebus have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Goyang. Loser Seoul Thunders keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Mobis Phoebus will meet at home KCC Egis (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Seoul Thunders will play against KoGas and hope to secure a win.

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked KoGas (3-9) defeated on the road 8th ranked Seoul Knights (4-9) 81-76 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Dae-Sung Lee (192-1990, college: BYU-Hawaii) who scored 22 points and 4 assists. American forward Murphy Holloway (201-1990, college: Ole Miss, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Five KoGas players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Sunh-Yung Kim (187-1988) added 19 points and 5 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. KoGas maintains tenth place with 3-9 record. Defending champion Seoul Knights dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. KoGas will meet higher ranked Seoul Thunders (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Seoul Knights will play against Wonju DB (#6) and hope to secure a win.

Goyang - Wonju DB 82-77

Not a big story in a game in Daegu where 6th ranked Wonju DB (6-5) was defeated by second ranked Goyang (8-4) 82-77 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The best player for the winners was American power forward Dedric Lawson (206-1997, college: Kansas) who scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. The former international Lee Jung-Hyun (190-1999) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Four Goyang players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Kyungmin Doo (184-1991) who recorded 19 points and the former international center Jongkyu Kim (207-1991) added 10 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Goyang maintains second place with 8-4 record having just three points less than leader Anyang, which they share with Mobis Phoebus. Wonju DB lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with five games lost. Goyang will meet league's leader Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Wonju DB will play against Seoul Knights (#9) and hope to secure a win.

They outrebounded KoGas 43-28 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Mobis Phoebus especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Gaige Prim (203-1999, college: Missouri St.) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Woosuk Lee (196-1999) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds.
